About Idaho Pasture Pigs

As close to the perfect homestead pig as you can get!

The newest addition to our little homestead, Idaho Pasture Pigs were bred in Rigby, Idaho which instantly makes them dear to our hearts being from Idaho! These pigs are a fast growing meat variety that is easy on your land. They mature between 250 and 350 pounds for the sow (female) and 350 to 450 pounds for the boar (male).

They have a great friendly disposition and are very gentle natured. Their diet can be about 90% pasture and only require about 10% grains so if you are looking to raise a pig on pasture these are your pigs.

Be careful as many people will advertise Idaho Pasture Pigs and be selling a mix of their own variety which will inevitably lead to extreme borrowing and injury to your land. We have definitely came across that in our own start with this breed. We suggest sticking with registered breeders though they tend to be more expensive.

Meet

Abraham Lincoln

Abraham is a fully registered IPP (K0366) of the Max – Red Rock lines. He is our Original Breeding Boar. If you are looking for what the IPP boar is supposed to look like this is your man. He is a large man weighing approximately four hundred pounds. He has always managed to get his job done and has given us great litters of piglets when paired with one of our breeding sows. He does however like to be left alone only occasionally enjoying pets. With his size we are normally happy to give him his space. Though the IPP as a whole has more gentle and tame pigs always be cautious of the boar of any breed. While the sows and gilts will often gladly submissively lay for some good pets boars may lay, run away or charge depending on the moment.

Meet

Mary Anne

Some may know that Mary Anne was the wife of Abraham Lincoln and therefor the other half of our original breeding set. She is a registered IPP (K0370) Sow of the George – Jodi line. Again if you are looking for the perfect example of an IPP she is another great example. She is one of the sweetest pigs you will ever meet. Often as soon as you walk into her pen she will lay down and expect to have her belly rubbed. She has been a great mother for her piglets as well. She is another large pig. She is about three hundred and fifty pounds and most of the time borderline over weight! To be fair she is pretty much always a dirty girl as pictured!

Meet

King Arthur

Arthur is a register IPP (K5893) boar of the Sam – Heart line. He is part of our second breeding pair we purchased. Though he is a bit younger than the others due to him being a replacement for a boar that didn’t meet some breeding standards. He is also a very good looking IPP boar and this guy is friendly. While Abraham wants a respectful distance the King wants to be showed in attention and will often lay down for his belly rubs. Again keep a healthy respect for all boars which is almost harder to do with this young man because he is so sweet and sometimes a little timid. He is still growing  but currently is about three hundred pounds.

Meet

Rachel

Rachel is the other half of our second breeding pair. She is a registered IPP (K2310) Sow of the Bandit – Red Rock line. Again she is just the sweetest girl you can have. She loves belly rubs per the usual for a IPP sow. Rachel is however our resident escape artist. If there is a way out of the pen or the electric fence goes down you’ll be greeted as you enter the large pasture by an excited to see you girl ready for some loves! She is approximately three hundred pounds so she is a decent sized girl.
